Case Study: Spasmodic Dysphonia Treatment with SSP

Case Study: Spasmodic Dysphonia Treatment with SSP

70-year-old Caucasian male presented with Spasmodic Dysphonia. The onset of the condition, which causes the vocal cords to spasm, was age 60. His condition was significant enough that he could not order at restaurants, speak clearly with coworkers and friends, or talk with his grandchildren clearly. Over the last decade this individual received Botox injections, muscle relaxers, speech therapy, as wells as other supplements and medication to treat the condition. We worked through the pre-protocol work which involves psychoeducation, nervous system regulation exercises, as well as mapping shifts in his autonomic nervous system. The individual was able to listen to 20 minutes a day over the span of a month in order to finish all 5 hours of the protocol. 2 weeks after the protocol was finished, the individual was able to speak more clearly, talk with friends across the table at a busy restaurant, and clearly tell his grandchildren that he loves them without any medicinal or surgical interventions. Reports from individual and observation would suggest 60-80% return of vocal functioning. After 3 months the individual noticed a slight regression and began working through the lightly filtered supplemental version (SSP Balance) of the protocol and has noticed improvement again. The protocol may be repeated every 4-6 months, and the individual anticipates working through it again.
